Who Are the Tutors?
Each tutoring provider will hire their own tutors. Tutors are required to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Have a minimum of two years of college (equivalent to 60 semester hours)
- Have an Associate's Degree
- Pass a local Paraprofessional academic assessment
Some companies may choose to hire only certified teachers to work with the students. If this is the case, this will be noted in the 2011-2012 Provider's Directory.
How Long Will the Tutoring Last?
Providers can only tutor students up to 2 hours per day (4 hours on Saturdays) and a maximum of 6 hours total per week.
How Can I Contact a Tutoring Provider to Speak with Someone in Person?
Each tutoring provider has the contact information listed in their description. You are welcome to visit their websites or contact them by phone.
How Do I Get Started?
- Pick up an enrollment form at the front office of your child's school.
- Complete the enrollment form and select the top 6 companies of your choice.
- Submit your enrollment form to the front office at your child's school or to the Title I Office located at 306 NW 7th Avenue, Ocala, FL 34475.
Next Steps
- The Title I Office will send you a letter to let you know the status of your child's application.
- If your child is approved, the tutoring company will contact you to develop your child's STUDENT LEARNING PLAN (SLP). The SLP will contain the days, times, and location for the tutoring as well as the goals your child will work towards. The SLP must be developed and signed before your child is able to begin tutoring.
- Tutoring should begin for your child the week of October 10, 2011.
- You should expect to receive a monthly Progress Report from your child's tutor.
- Make sure your child attends each tutoring session. If your child has two unexcused absences, the tutoring company has the option to withdraw your child from the program.
