Professional Development
Welcome to Professional Development!
Marion County Public School’s Staff Development Department is committed to providing quality professional development activities for teachers, administrators, and non-instructional personnel. This department has a detailed vision for professional growth that enables educators to provide quality instruction for the students of Marion County. The staff development department personnel are well versed in the research surrounding effecting staff development programs and strive to develop trainings that reflect the research in best practices for developing high achievement in all content areas for all students.
In an effort to provide trainings to the greatest number of people possible, we structure Professional Development Universities (4 per year after school time), Summer Teaching Academies, District in-service and half-day trainings, school-based training, and on-site mentoring and coaching. We believe that learning is a lifelong process; the task of professional development activity is to impact the instruction in the classroom because only quality teaching makes the difference in student learning and achievement. The District vision supports the critical nature of staff development as a key role in achieving the goals of the District and the vision of "Leading the State in Raising Student Performance."
