Keeping parents and employees informed is a top priority in Marion County Schools. That is why we have adopted the ALERTNOW® Notification Service which allows us to send a telephone message to you providing important information about school events or emergencies.
To hear the latest messages sent to your phone, click here to search ALERTnow.
On any average day, principals and/or the district may use this telephone notification system to relay information on a variety of topics -- summer reading tips, back-to-school issues, immunization requirements, general school announcements about upcoming events, deadlines, etc. Our Transportation Department also utilizes the system to let parents know about late buses.
During an emergency, the system is also used to communicate school delays, school closings, Code Red/Code Yellow lockdown situations, bomb threats, etc. We also share meeting information with parents wanting more details on these emergency situations.
ALERTnow makes up to 4,000 calls per minute during routine use and 6,000 calls per minute in an emergency.
Typically, telephone calling lists are generated automatically from our student information database. School Board employees are also a part of this notification process.
The successful delivery of information is dependent upon accurate contact information for each student, so please make certain that your child's school has your most current phone numbers. If this information changes during the year, please let the school know immediately.
