Four current assistant principals will take the helm of their own schools as principals this August, just in time for the new school year.
In his latest round of leadership announcements, Superintendent George Tomyn named the four new principals at the following schools:
Fort King Middle – Renee Dudley, currently the assistant principal at East Marion Elementary. Dudley joined the district in 1995 as a vocational teacher at Lake Weir Middle. She also taught at Belleview Elementary before transferring as assistant principal to Fort King Middle in 2005. She was interim principal at the same school for a brief period then moved to Saddlewood Elementary as assistant principal in 2010. She transferred to her current position at East Marion in 2011. She earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration / marketing and a Master of Education in educational leadership, both from the University of Florida.
North Marion Middle – John Kerley, currently assistant principal at Maplewood Elementary. Kerley started as a social studies teacher in 1997 at Forest High School. He moved to Evergreen Elementary in 2006, then back to Forest two years later. In 2009, he was appointed assistant principal at North Marion Middle and moved to his current position at Maplewood in 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science in social science from Florida Southern College and a Master of Science in educational leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.
South Ocala Elementary - Lisa Coy, currently assistant principal at the same school. Coy joined the district in 1995 as a first-grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary. She transferred in 2006 as assistant principal at Romeo Elementary, then to her current AP position at South Ocala in 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Florida A&M University and a Master of Science in educational leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.
Wyomina Park Elementary – Valda Niznik, currently assistant principal at Marion Oaks Elementary. Niznik joined the district in 2003 after teaching in Cincinnati and Texas schools for 13 years. Her first position in Marion County was teaching third grade at Emerald Shores Elementary. In 2005, she moved to Staff Development at the district level. Three years later, she transferred to assistant principal at Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks and in 2010 moved to her current position at Marion Oaks Elementary. She earned her Bachelor of Art in elementary education from Our Lady of the Elms College. Her two Master of Education degrees in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership come from the University of Cincinnati and the University of Texas, respectively.
