Just in time for “Music in Our Schools Month, “ hundreds of local students will perform in the third annual Charlie Dixon Memorial Elementary Music Festival on Thursday, March 8, at First Baptist Church of Ocala.
The 6:30PM concert features upwards of 450 students from 14 local public elementary schools.
The event will be videotaped and aired at a later date on the Marion Education Channel, available on local cable channels including Brighthouse 198, Comcast 99, and Cox 12, as well as over-the-air on digital channel 7.1.
Dr. Kathleen Sanz, executive director of the Florida Music Educators Association and Florida School Music Association, will speak during the event. Artwork by elementary students will be displayed in entry areas as well.
Advance discount tickets are available at $2 for adults and $1 for students 12 and under by contacting any of 14 participating elementary schools: Dr. NH Jones, Dunnellon, Evergreen, Hammett Bowen Jr., Marion Oaks, Maplewood, Oakcrest, Ocala Springs, Romeo, Saddlewood, Shady Hill, Sunrise, Ward-Highlands, and Wyomina Park. Tickets at-the-door are $3 for adults and $1 for students (12 and under). Proceeds pay for the event and help fund other music events for the Marion County Music Association and local music teachers, along with certain educational events with the Optimist Club of Ocala.
