Binder System - Purge and Organize your binder

Dear parents and students the first nine weeks of school are over and now is a great time to file the work from the first nine weeks into a safe place at home and create room for the next nine weeks in your binder. Please purge and organize your binder.

Fort King Middle School is implementing a binder system in an effort to better help our students become organized. Far too often assignments and other important documents become lost in the bottom of backpacks or mixed in folders only to never be found again until it is too late to get credit for the hard work put into completing the assignments.  We will no longer use the agenda system as we have in the past. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the change and to not blindside you with a $5 charge as we have in the past for the agenda.

The cost of the binder is $5. It will come with dividers for each class period. Binders will be purchased in homeroom. Students who have already purchased a 3 inch 3 ring binder do not have to purchase a new binder. Replacement binders will be sold throughout the year at a cost of $2.50 to the student.

Other schools are charging $15 or more dollars for the binders used in their system. Every child will be given a binder with dividers next Monday. Students can pay for the binder with a check or cash. Unpaid balances will be placed on a debt list.

Please feel free to contact Fort King if you have any questions.

Respectfully,

Wayne Livingston

**Please Be Aware 11/4/12 FKMS MOBILE App

MARION BECOMES FIRST SCHOOL DISTRICT IN FLORIDA TO OFFER MOBILE APP

MARION COUNTY– Marion County Public Schools is the first Florida school district to offer a new mobile app to students, parents, employees, and others seeking school information.

The district is customizing and testing the app now. The free app, called School Connect, is available in the Apple and Android app stores to users of smart phones and other app-enabled devices.

Once users download the free app, they can choose to receive “push” notifications from any school. Similar to text messages, these notifications can be immediate in case of an emergency.  In the future, they may also remind subscribers about early release days, events, athletic competitions, club meetings, and other district and school functions.

The app, provided free to the district and users at no taxpayer expense, links to the Parent Portal with student grades, school lunch menus, school addresses and contact information, school web sites, and education-related resources. It also provides GPS mapping and navigation links and multiple language options including Spanish.

The app was created by School Connect, an Oklahoma-based mobile app developer for K-12 school systems.  Within 24 hours of its initial launch in October 2011, School Connect was a Top 25 free app at the Apple store.

The app will enhance district and school efforts to improve communications with parents, students, employees, and other stakeholders.

You can also visit  www.schoolconnectapps.com  for more details.
