students were asked to bring in at least one person in their family who was born before 1935. We then look names up, searching for that family member on the 1940 US Census. If they were not born in US/not yet immigrated to US, students will look up my grandfather. Please note that this is a questioning exercise, in that the students were supposed to speak to family members/friends of family to get this information, then wrote it down so we can search. I do not question the students on the person - whoever they considered family is their family.

Students are required to read every day for at least 30 minutes.
Students are required to read a minimum of 100-200 pages per week.
Doing so will allow student to meet their AR goals and complete their reading logs

| Accelerated Reading Point Goals

Students have taken a test called Scholastic Reading Inventory, which gives the level they are reading at, according to the computer score. I then determine a point goal for each individual student. The goals will be different for each student.
Students are required to meet their point goal by the end of the quarter, which is Jan. 15th.
Meeting their point goal counts as a TEST grade.

Students are to read over winter break. They have been to the library to get books for this assignment.
The next reading log will be due on January 11th.
Students are to have 30 days of reading and/or 400 pages read
The summary for the reading log due in January should be very long and students should answer two (2) of the prompts for Part Three and two (2) of the prompts for Part 4.
