Chapter 10 review questions:

1. Contrast how Scout feels about how Atticus measures up to the other fathers at the start of the chapter and how Jem feels about Atticus at the end of the chapter.

2. How does the incident with the mad dog change Scout’s mind about her original opinion of her father?

3. Why do you think Atticus chose to become a lawyer to defend people through words despite his ability with the shotgun?

You were meant to have completed 7-8 over the weekend. If you did not, please read them today and respond to the following prompts:

1. What two strange natural events occur in chapter 8?

2. Write a paragraph which compares and contrasts the effects that each event had on Jem, Scout, and their neighbors.

paragraphs should be at least 5 sentences, using at least 3 pieces of evidence from the chapter.

Following that, you need to complete the reading log and read to the end of chapter 10.

1st period: due tomorrow 5/7/2013

3rd period: due Wednesday, 5/8/2013

We have been working through our first poetry packet this week to review figurative language and literary devices before the FCAT. If you miss any days this week, please print out your own copy of the packet and follow the directions for each section.

Create an outline for your rough draft of the research paper. Follow the example found in the research paper packet for information on how to format.

Read Act 2, Scene 1 and respond to all questions in the power point for that scene. The power point is posted on the ANNOUNCEMENTS page under English 2.

Remember, your notecards are due Friday, February 15th.

Each card should include:

1.  title of book/website

2. author

3. quote or paraphrased information you will include in your paper

4. the subtopic the information relates to. (ex. If your topic was Jamaica, your subtopics might be culture, climate/geography, and economy/jobs)

5. type of source (book, website, etc).

Go to the announcements page for the power point. If you were absent Wednesday, Feb. 6th, you must read the power point and complete the practice assignments.

ex. Topic: pirates

subtopic 1: daily life as a pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy 1600s-1700s

subtopic 2: pirate gear/ weapons/ ships

subtopic 3: famous pirates of the Golden Age

Beginning Friday, Jan. 4, we are working on the quarter 2 close reading activity.

You must come to class to recieve your packet.

On Friday, we read excerpt 1 and answered questions 1 and 2.

Monday, Jan. 7:

reviewed 1 and 2

answered questions 3 and 4 and read excerpt 2

This will be counted as extra credit. We will be working on it in class this week and next before exams. Anything not done in class needs to be completed at home for the credit. A copy can be found on the announcements page.

If you missed any days during our reading of "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradubury, you will need to complete all assignments at home.

The story is located in your book on pages 284-292.

Our test is on Thursday and Friday 1st period and  Friday 3rd period. Study all notes.

Create a graphic organizer that outlines the house's duties at each hour of the day as you read pages 284-287 of the story. Think about what types of technology is needed to allow the house to perform its functions.

create a chart of inferences you made as you read pages 284-287 of the story.

Remember, inferences are guesses you make about setting, plot, and characters based on clues you pick up as you read.
