A Service Provided by Marion County Public Schools

The district offers before and after school programs at all elementary schools as well as select middle schools. Middle school programs are limited to mornings with the exception of Howard Middle, Osceola Middle, Ft. King Middle, and Liberty Middle which also provide afternoon programs. Hillcrest School is an afternoon only program. Our goal is to provide a safe and enriching program which supports working parents and encourages interpersonal student development.

Extended Day provides opportunities for children to develop socially, emotionally, and physically, within a warm and caring atmosphere. Extended Day is monitored and evaluated by The Early Learning Coalition of Marion County to ensure compliance with school-age developmentally appropriate practices. Students may register at each school site through the Extended Day Site Manager.

Staff
The Extended Day Program will hire only the most qualified staff to work as Site Managers and Group Leaders. All staff must possess a high school diploma or GED and have childcare experience. Additionally, staff must have Florida Department of Children and Families childcare training. All site managers are certified in CPR and First Aid.

Hours of Operation
Mornings: Opens at 6:30 until school starts
Afternoons: Begins at school dismissal until 6:00pm (snack provided)

Fees
Fees are charged for this program and are designated as a flat-rate fee, meaning a fixed fee per week is charged for services regardless of usage or number of days in the week. Fees are paid weekly in advance.

Those wishing to apply for subsidized childcare funding must call The Early Learning Coalition of Marion County at 369-2315 to schedule an appointment. Their office is located at 3304 SE Lake Weir Ave, Suite #2, Ocala, FL 34471.

Program Activities
The programs vary from time to time according to the interests of the children and talents of the staff. All programs will include homework time, snack time, indoor and outdoor play time, academic, and enrichment activities.

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for active play.

Homework Time
At Extended Day we make every effort to allow time for children to complete their homework assignments. However, it is the child’s responsibility to inform their group leader if they have homework.

The Extended Day staff is available to answer general homework questions during this time; however, one-on-one tutoring is not available. Please encourage your child to work on homework during the scheduled time. You may want to ask your child's classroom teacher to inform the Extended Day Site Manager of homework assignments. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the parent to check homework for completion and accuracy.
