Philosophy:
In Marion County we believe that an extra-curricular program of clubs, organizations,
and activities offers a positive and valuable dimension to the overall growth
of young people into productive, responsible adults. We encourage participation
as a means to provide young people with experiences, which will convert to
meaningful learning.
These experiences include, but are not limited to:
- Discovery and development of leadership skills;
- Opportunity for active citizenship participation;
- Opportunity for self-expression and initiative;
- Promotion of creative abilities;
- Development of individual and group responsibility;
- Opportunity to demonstrate skills learned in the classroom; and
- Development of skills for use in future life.
Student Membership Requirements:
Students are encouraged to join and participate in clubs. Membership
requirements are contained in each club’s constitution and by-laws;
however, there are general regulations regarding eligibility for membership
in any clubs and organizations.
In accordance with the Marion County School Board and established school
policies, individuals involved in activity programs must meet certain requirements. Prior
to joining a club all students must:
- Have
a minimum 2.0 unweighted cumulative GPA and meet the club’s requirements.
- Meet
individual school participation fee requirements.
- Complete
the Yellow Student Participation and Parental Approval Form (Cur25).
- Complete
the Drug Testing Authorization Form (RMD 64).
All members must abide by the Marion County Code of Student Conduct for
both on and off campus activities.
Classification of Clubs and Organizations:
Government: These elected bodies provide services
to their constituents and are responsible for all governmental decisions
affecting class-wide and school-wide activities.
Academic: The purpose of academic clubs is to provide
students with opportunities to apply class related work..
Service: These clubs promote goodwill by volunteering
in various planned school and community activities. Each service club will
be involved in school and/or community improvement projects.
Special Interest: Promoting a deeper knowledge of
subject matter and encouraging better use of leisure time are the primary
objectives of special interest clubs. Each club is encouraged to sponsor
one major activity to showcase the members' talents.
Career and Technical Student Organizations: The purpose
of vocational student organizations is to provide students enrolled in Applied
Technology classes with opportunities to participate in a variety of competitive,
leadership, and social activities designed to reinforce the skills learned
in the classroom.
All clubs are encouraged to participate in school/community service learning
projects.

The Engineering & Manufacturing Institute of Technology (EMIT) Website |

Sponsor:

Ms. Peggy Brookins - Program Director |
|
Purpose:
|
The goal of the academy is to prepare students for twenty-first century careers in the broad array of career fields involving drafting and design, architecture, engineering, and manufacturing technology. Students who complete this program successfully will be prepared either to further their education in those career areas requiring postsecondary education at a university, a community college, or technical school; or to enter career areas, which are open for immediate employment upon high school graduation. Students in the EMIT Academy are enrolled in Honors level courses with Advanced Placement classes available to all of our students. Our goal for students is to have a challenging academic foundation while applying that knowledge to real world situations. EMIT believes that problem solving (investigating, conjecturing, predicting, analyzing, and verifying), followed by a well-reasoned presentation of results, is central to the process of learning, and that this learning happens most effectively in a cooperative, student-centered classroom. Our intention is to have students assume responsibility for the concepts they explore—to understand theorems that are developed, to be able to use techniques appropriately, to know how to test results for reasonability, to learn to use technology appropriately, to communicate results, and to welcome new challenges whose outcomes are unknown. |
