Volunteers
What We Need
Parents are invited and encouraged to volunteer at school. Every effort will be made to find every parent a way to participate actively in his/her child's education.
Volunteers are needed to tutor students, make crafts, supervise field trips, be on our advisory board, help with sports, etc.
How to Volunteer for LWHS
Volunteer Application
In order to provide the safest possible environment for our students, all volunteers must have a Volunteer Application on file and approved 10 days prior to volunteering with our students. This application must be filled out every year. The form has been redesigned to be easier to read and fill out properly. The forms are available at the front desk. Also, each application must be accompanied by a clear copy of your driver's license. These forms can be turned in to the front desk. Please make sure you have a few extra moments for a short orientation and interview to make sure we know what you are interested in doing to help out at Lake Weir High School so we can best match your interests with the needs of our teachers and students.
Click here to go the the MCPS Volunteers Site where you can find the form and read about volunteer activities.
Request to Transport Students in a Private Vehicle
If you will be transporting students in your private vehicle, you must fill out a Request to Transport Students in a Private Vehicle Form and have this on file and approved at least 10 days prior to the activity for which you would like to transport students. This form must be accompanied by a copy of your driver's license and insurance card.
Please take note of an important change: Due to research by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, students may be transported only in passenger vehicles (not to exceed 8 students) or Multipurpose Vehicles (including SUV's and minivans for 10 or fewer passengers) with a wheelbase greater than 110". For a detailed description of approved vehicles go to the Student Services tab at the top of this website and then access the link on the left side of the page titled Athletic and Special Activities Insurance.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Teresa Newport, Volunteer Coordinator, at 671-4820.
