SCHOOL CONNECTS VIA SMARTPHONE 

Would you like to receive text messages from Osceola directly to your smart phone?

 

This year Osceola Middle and Eighth Street Elementary Schools will be utilizing School Connects to send text messages for reminders of important upcoming events at school. Many of our parents have already downloaded the app from the App Store on your iPhone, but you may also download the School Connects application onto any Android/Windows phone- including Blackberry. Once you have downloaded the app to your device, it is easy to create a free account for yourself following the simple on-screen instructions. You may sign up to receive notifications from the Marion County School District, Osceola, Eighth Street, Forest, Vanguard, etc.  

 

School Connects is also accessible through other devices with a web browser including, but not limited to: Kindle Fire; Nook; & Home computer.

  PROGRESS REPORTS POSTED ON PARENT PORTAL

FOR 2013-2014

 

Beginning this school year, Marion County will no longer issue paper progress reports on the 23rd day of the marking period.  Parents are encouraged to enter the Parent Portal to view students grades.  This is the most accurate way to monitor student progress.  The Parent Portal has been active for several years.  Parents are strongly encouraged to come to the school to receive a PIN so they can set up a family folder.  By using this connection parents will be able to check students grades online.  Once a family is enrolled, registration does not have to be repeated.  Currently, parents can review grade books, view state test history, and monitor student attendance.  This portal will become the avenue for communicating with parents via email.  Students now have their own portal wthat will give them access to grades, electronic textbooks, and academic websites.

If you have not already enrolled on the Parent Portal, stop by school as soon as possible and we will verify your identity and provide parents with the necessary enrollment information. Parents can finish the enrollment activity once they return home.

If you do not have Internet access at home or work, contact school and we will work with parents to develop an alternative method of receiving progress reports.

New Students to Osceola Middle School

We are looking forward to the possibility of you attending Osceola Middle School! Students that are zoned for Osceola Middle School will be scheduled. Note: If you are planning to move into Osceola Middle School’s area you will not be scheduled until proof of residency and registration is provided to Osceola Middle School’s guidance office.

Parents of returning students do not need to do anything to register their children for Osceola Middle School. Incoming 6th grade students zoned for Osceola Middle School will automatically be scheduled at Osceola Middle School unless their parents have indicated something different to their elementary school’s guidance counselor.

Rainy Day Dismissal Procedures:

Osceola Middle will implement rainy day dismissal procedures on days when we are experiencing a hard rain during the 1:45 PM dismissal. The front car loop along 5th St. will be closed and all traffic will be routed east on Tuscawilla Ave.. Cars will turn into the Osceola campus just past the 8th grade patio and will form two lines. Students will stand under shelter and wait for their name to be called on the loud speaker. You may want to cell phone your student as you enter the campus to prepare them to load the car.

Off-Campus Car Riders and Walkers – Parents are asked to make rainy day plans with their students in advance. They are encouraged to wait on campus under cover.
