Lava Lamp Experiment
As a class we made homemade lava lamps! We were so excited and had so much fun learning about the different "chemicals". We learned oil is less dense than water, and that is why the oil did not mix with the water. We added food coloring to give the water color. Alka Seltzer was then dropped in the bottle to create gas bubbles. As the gas bubbles rose, they took some of the colored water with them. When the blob of water reached the top, the gas escaped and down went the water producing the lava lamp experience. We made observations, predictions, and recorded the process step by step. This was "the best day ever"!
