Media Center Activities
The library is open from 7:30 a.m. (zero period) - 3:20 p.m. to provide our students with a quiet place to read, use the computers and study. Please respect yourselves, respect others and respect our posted rules.
Library Skills Orientations will be completed through the English I classes during the first few weeks of school. If you miss the orientation, please see Mrs. Johnson for an informational handout.
Library Skills Orientations will also be completed through the Reading Intensive classes. Students will be shown how to access Destiny through the student portal, how to search for books that have a quiz in our Reading Counts program, how to find interesting books to read, and how to locate them in the library.
Join our VHS Book Club and our student body as we participate in the 2012-2013 Florida Teens Read Program. Read at least three of the fifteen titles and vote for your favorite in April 2013! There will be a link on our Media > Reference Resources page in April when it is time to vote.
Our Teen Reads Book Bowl Team will have our first organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 8:15 a.m. in the library. Our book club will read and discuss the fifteen novels, suggest books for library purchase, and help prepare our team for the District Secondary Book Bowl Contest in April. We have two alternate positions available and we will have try-outs in December. If you are interested in joining our winning team, start reading the fifteen Teens Read novels!
Reading Intensive students will be reading UnWind and the sequel UnWholly, written by author Neal Shusterman. Reading Intensive students enjoyed meeting Mr. Shusterman at M.T.I. on October 9th.
AP, IB and Dual Enrollment students at VHS qualify for the Florida Library Access Pass for Accelerated Secondary Students. (FLA-PASS). Please click here for additional information.
